What is the Standard Horizon GX1410 Eclipse?

The Standard Horizon GX1410 Eclipse is a 25-watt, fixed-mount marine VHF radio with Class D DSC (ITU-R M.493-16). A separate channel 70 receiver keeps watching for DSC calls even while you're talking on another channel, and the red DISTRESS key sends a digital MAYDAY with your vessel ID and position.

It's IPX8 submersible, ultra-compact at just 3.94" deep, and the included noise-canceling microphone has its own channel, power, and 16/S keys. This listing is the black, non-GPS model (GX1410B) — connect it to your chartplotter or an external GPS so distress calls include your position.

GX1410 Eclipse Key Features

DSC & emergency

Class D DSC with a separate CH 70 receiver

A dedicated receiver watches DSC channel 70 the whole time, so a distress or individual call gets through even while you're mid-conversation on another channel.

One-button DSC distress

Lift the red cover and hold DISTRESS for 3 seconds. The radio sends your MMSI and GPS position (when a GPS is connected) and repeats every 4 minutes until it's acknowledged.

Nature-of-distress categories

Tag your alert as fire, flooding, collision, grounding, sinking, man overboard, and more, so rescuers know what they're heading into.

DSC test call

Send a test call to another DSC radio to confirm everything works — without tying up channel 16.

DSC calling & tracking

Individual, group & all-ships calls

Call one boat directly by MMSI (up to 60 contacts), call your whole group at once (up to 30 groups), or send urgency and safety calls to all ships.

Position request & report

Ask a buddy boat for its location, or send yours. Received positions show on the radio and pass to a connected chartplotter.

Auto position polling

Automatically track the GPS positions of up to 6 vessels at a set interval — handy for flotillas and fishing buddies.

DSC call log

Stores your latest 30 sent calls, 30 distress calls, and 50 other calls, like an answering machine for DSC.

Microphone & controls

Noise-canceling microphone

Clear Voice noise reduction cuts engine and wind noise from your transmissions.

Radio controls on the mic

Change channels, switch between 25W and 1W, and jump to channel 16 right from the microphone — no reaching for the radio.

Programmable soft keys

Put the functions you use most — weather, scan, Dual Watch, presets — on the front-panel soft keys.

E2O Easy-to-Operate menu

Plain-language menus make DSC setup and everyday use simple, even if you're new to DSC.

Channels, weather & scanning

Instant channel 16

The red 16/S key jumps straight to channel 16. Press and hold for your sub channel (channel 9 by default).

NOAA weather + weather alert

Get a loud alert when NOAA broadcasts a severe weather warning, even while you're on another channel or scanning.

Scan, priority scan & Multi Watch

Scan your saved channels, keep checking channel 16 while you scan, or watch two or three channels with Dual or Triple Watch.

10 preset channels

Save your go-to channels for one-touch access from the P-SET soft key.

Installation & durability

Ultra-compact chassis

At 3.94" deep, it fits in shallow dashes and tight consoles where bigger radios won't.

IPX8 submersible

Rated for 1.5 meters (about 5 feet) of water for 30 minutes — built for open helms and center consoles.

NMEA 0183 in and out

Pull GPS position from your chartplotter for DSC calls, and send DSC positions back to the plotter. Supports standard and high-speed (38400 baud) NMEA.

Large, adjustable display

A 31 × 55 mm full dot matrix screen with adjustable backlight, dimmer, and night mode for easy reading in sun or dark.

Compatible Accessories for the Standard Horizon GX1410

Mounting

MMB-84 — Flush-Mount Bracket

Mounts the GX1410 flush in your dash or console for a clean, built-in look. You'll need at least 4.72" of depth behind the panel.

HC1100 — Dust Cover

A white cover that protects the front panel from sun and spray when you're not using the radio.

GPS

SCU-31 — External GPS Antenna

A GPS antenna with a built-in receiver and 49 feet of cable. Wires into the radio's NMEA input so your DSC distress calls include your position — no chartplotter needed.

Audio

MLS-410SP — External Loudspeaker

Puts radio audio where you can hear it over the engine — on the flybridge, in the cockpit, or at the bow.

Who Is This Radio For?

The GX1410 is for boaters who want a reliable, full-power DSC radio at the helm without paying for features they won't use.

1. Boats With a Chartplotter Already Installed

If your plotter has NMEA 0183 output, you already have a GPS. The GX1410B pulls your position from it for DSC calls and sends DSC positions back — so you don't pay for a second GPS.

2. Center Consoles and Small Cruisers

The IPX8 rating handles open helms, and the 3.94" depth fits shallow dashes. Flush mount it with the MMB-84 for a factory look.

3. Replacing an Older Eclipse or Non-DSC Radio

The GX1410 replaces the older Eclipse+ and Eclipse DSC models. If your current radio doesn't have DSC, this is an affordable way to get one-button distress calling on board.

4. Anyone Who Wants a Backup to Their Handheld

25 watts and a masthead or T-top antenna reach much farther than a handheld. Pair it with a floating handheld so you're covered at the helm and if you have to leave the boat.

Important: Marine VHF radios can only be used on the water. The FCC does not allow marine VHF transmissions on land. If you need radios for a job site, warehouse, or building, see our Find My Radio tool for business radio options.

GX1410B vs. GX1410G

Same radio, same 25 watts, same Class D DSC. The GX1410G adds a built-in 66-channel GPS in the front panel, so DSC distress calls include your position right out of the box. If you already have a chartplotter with NMEA 0183 output, save the money and go GX1410B. If you don't, the GX1410G is the simpler install.

GX1410 vs. HX891BT

The GX1410 puts out 25 watts through a mounted antenna, so it reaches much farther than any handheld. The HX891BT is the radio you can take with you — it floats and has its own GPS and DSC. Many boaters run both: the GX1410 at the helm and a handheld for the dinghy, deck, or ditch bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the GX1410B have a built-in GPS?

No. The GX1410B gets your position from an external GPS through its NMEA 0183 input. Most chartplotters with NMEA 0183 output will work, or you can add the SCU-31 GPS antenna.

Without a GPS connected, DSC distress calls still go out, but without your position unless you enter it manually. The radio also beeps 10 minutes after power-on, then every 4 hours, to remind you to connect one.

If you want GPS built in, look at the GX1410G.

Do I need an MMSI number?

Yes, to use DSC. Distress alerts and other DSC calls only work after you program your 9-digit MMSI into the radio.

Recreational boaters in U.S. waters can get a free MMSI from BoatUS or Sea Tow. Boats traveling internationally need one from the FCC.

Enter it carefully — the radio only accepts it once. Changing it later requires a reset code from Standard Horizon.

How do I install the GX1410?

Mount it with the included bracket (overhead or on a surface) or flush in your dash with the MMB-84. Connect the red wire to 13.8 VDC through the included 6 A fuse and the black wire to ground. Then connect a 50-ohm marine VHF antenna with a PL-259 connector.

Use RG-58 coax for runs under 25 feet, and RG-8/U for longer runs. Keep the radio at least 1 meter (about 3.3 feet) from your compass, and the antenna at least 4.6 feet from passengers.

Standard Horizon recommends having a marine technician check power output and antenna SWR after installation.

Can I flush mount it?

Yes, with the optional MMB-84 flush-mount bracket. You'll need at least 4.72" of depth behind the panel and about half an inch of clearance around the heat sink. A cutout template is printed in the owner's manual.

What range can I expect?

Standard Horizon puts a 25-watt fixed-mount radio at more than 15 miles line of sight. Antenna height and gain matter more than wattage — a 6 dB fiberglass whip on a powerboat or a 3 dB whip at the masthead of a sailboat will make the biggest difference.

Do I need a license?

Not for most recreational boaters in U.S. waters. The FCC no longer requires a ship station license for vessels that aren't required to carry a radio.

You may need one if you travel internationally or boat in Canadian waters.

Does it replace my old Eclipse radio?

Yes. The GX1410 replaces the older Eclipse+ and Eclipse DSC models, and it meets the current ITU-R M.493-16 Class D DSC standard.

What's the difference between the GX1410B and GX1410W?

Just the color. The GX1410B is black and the GX1410W is white. Features, specs, and accessories are the same.
