The Motorola EVX-S24 is a compact, IP67-rated UHF digital two-way radio designed for commercial and institutional use in demanding environments. Operating on 403–470 MHz frequencies in both analog and digital (DMR Tier II) modes, it delivers 3 watts of output power, 256 programmable channels across 16 talk groups, and up to 12 hours of battery life in a body that measures just 3.58 inches tall and weighs 7.6 ounces. Originally manufactured by Vertex Standard—a Motorola-owned company—the EVX-S24 is the same radio previously sold under the Vertex Standard name and is fully cross-compatible with Vertex EVX-S24 units.

EVX-S24 vs. Motorola CP200d

EVX-S24 vs. Motorola RDX Series

The Motorola RDX series radios are license-free (FRS/MURS-based) and pre-programmed, making them a simpler entry-level option. They require no FCC licensing and no dealer programming. However, they are limited in channel capacity, output power, and do not support digital DMR protocol. The EVX-S24 is a licensed Part 90 business radio with significantly more range, clearer audio, and enterprise-grade features. Organizations with 10 or more users, or those with safety requirements, will typically outgrow RDX-class radios quickly.

EVX-S24 vs. Motorola DLR Series

The Motorola DLR series operates on 900 MHz FHSS frequencies and requires no FCC license. It is designed for indoor retail and office environments where interference avoidance and license-free operation are priorities. The DLR has excellent in-building performance but no IP rating for water resistance, and it is not suited for outdoor or wet environments. The EVX-S24 is the better choice for organizations needing outdoor range, water protection, or cross-fleet digital compatibility.

Regulatory and Licensing Information

The Motorola EVX-S24 is a Part 90 licensed business radio under FCC regulations. A license is not required to purchase radios.

Key regulatory facts:

• Frequency band 406.0–406.1 MHz is reserved exclusively for distress beacons by the U.S. Coast Guard and NOAA. This range must never be programmed into the EVX-S24 under any circumstance.
• The radio complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules for incidental digital emissions.
• It has been approved by Industry Canada for operation with Motorola Solutions-approved antennas.
• Unauthorized modifications to the hardware void FCC authorization.
• The EVX-S24 uses DMR Tier II protocol, which is compliant with ETSI standards 102 361-1, 102 361-2, and 102 361-3.
• This radio is not an FRS, GMRS, or MURS radio and does not operate on Part 95 consumer frequencies.
