What is the HKLN4606?
The Motorola HKLN4606 is a wired remote speaker microphone (RSM) designed for use with Motorola CLS, DTR, DLR, RDX, RM, and XTN series business two-way radios. It connects to the radio's 2-pin audio accessory port via a coiled cord, positioning both speaker and microphone at shoulder or collar level so users can communicate without removing the radio from a belt or holster. The HKLN4606 is a genuine Motorola accessory, built and tested to the same quality standards as the radios it supports, and carries a 1-year manufacturer warranty.

Who This Product Is For
The HKLN4606 is a practical choice for any role where the worker needs both hands free and cannot stop to pull a radio from a holster or pocket. Because the speaker sits at collar or shoulder height, the user hears transmissions clearly without pressing the radio to their ear, and responds with a slight lean toward the mic rather than a reach to the radio. A few industries where this accessory is in regular use:
Security and Loss Prevention
Security personnel who patrol large facilities — retail stores, stadiums, office campuses, hotels — rely on shoulder mics to keep communications discreet and immediate. The mic position near the mouth produces cleaner transmissions than speaking across a belt-worn radio, and the coiled cord keeps the radio protected in a holster while the mic clips to a lapel or epaulet.
Retail and Warehousing
Floor associates and stockroom workers who handle merchandise, operate equipment, or push carts benefit from not having to set down product or equipment to transmit. In high-noise environments like distribution centers, positioning the speaker closer to the ear is a practical advantage over a belt-level radio speaker.
Hospitality
Hotel staff, event coordinators, and venue operations teams use the HKLN4606 with CLS and RDX series radios for coordinating housekeeping, front desk, and facilities communications. Discrete shoulder mic placement suits environments where visible radio communication needs to stay professional.
Manufacturing and Facilities Maintenance
Maintenance technicians and plant floor supervisors who work near machinery or in loud areas use RSMs to keep the radio protected from vibration and environmental exposure while still having immediate push-to-talk access.
Schools and Campus Operations
Custodial staff, campus security, and event staff at K–12 and university facilities use shoulder mics to maintain continuous radio contact while performing physical tasks like setup, breakdown, or grounds maintenance.
Car Wash Operations
Car wash managers and lane attendants who work around water, moving vehicles, and conveyor noise benefit from a mic that keeps the radio off the body where it might contact water, while still allowing fast, hands-free push-to-talk when directing cars or coordinating between stations. The HKLN4606 is compatible with the CLS1410 and CLS1110, two of the most widely deployed radios in car wash operations.

Frequently Asked Questions
What radios is the Motorola HKLN4606 compatible with?
The HKLN4606 uses Motorola's 2-pin slim plug connector and is compatible with a wide range of Motorola business radio series, including CLS (CLS1110, CLS1410), DTR (DTR600, DTR700), DLR (DLR1020, DLR1060), RDX (RDU4100, RDV5100, and others), RM (RMU2040, RMU2080, RMM2050, and others), XTN, AX, BPR40, CP series (CP100 through CP200), and select GP, PR, SP, and VL series radios. It does not include an audio jack, so it is not compatible with radios that require a 3.5mm earpiece port or a different connector type such as the 3.5mm or multi-pin connectors used on some Motorola commercial or professional series radios.
Does the HKLN4606 have an earpiece jack?
No. The HKLN4606 does not have a 3.5mm audio jack or any secondary earpiece port. Audio output is through the built-in speaker on the microphone body. If you require a private earpiece in addition to a remote mic, you would need a different model — such as the Motorola PMMN4013, which includes a 3.5mm audio jack for an earpiece connection.
How long is the cord on the HKLN4606?
The coiled cord measures approximately 23 inches when collapsed. It extends to just over 70 inches (approximately 6 feet) at full stretch. This allows the radio to remain on a belt or in a holster at the hip while the microphone unit clips to a collar or lapel without placing tension on the cord under normal use.
Is the Motorola HKLN4606 intrinsically safe?
No. The HKLN4606 is not rated intrinsically safe (IS). It is not approved for use in environments where explosive gases, flammable vapors, or combustible dust may be present. For use in oil and gas, mining, chemical processing, or other hazardous classified locations, an intrinsically safe rated RSM is required. Contact us or consult Motorola's accessory documentation to identify the appropriate IS-rated accessory for your radio model.
What is the difference between the HKLN4606 and the HKLN4606A?
The HKLN4606A is a revised version of the HKLN4606 with minor manufacturing updates. The two are functionally equivalent — same connector type, same compatible radio list, same form factor. Both part numbers are current, and either designation may appear depending on the production run. The HKLN4606 series replaced the earlier HKLN4477F.
Does the HKLN4606 control volume or channels on the radio?
No. The HKLN4606 has only one control: the push-to-talk button. Volume is adjusted using the volume knob on the radio itself. Channel selection, scanning, and all other radio functions remain on the radio body. The RSM does not add any controls or display capability beyond PTT and audio pass-through.
Can I use the HKLN4606 with my Motorola CLP or CLPe series radio?
No. The Motorola CLP and CLPe series (CLP1010e, CLP1080e, etc.) use a proprietary micro-USB style connector rather than the standard 2-pin slim plug. The HKLN4606 is not compatible with CLP or CLPe radios. Those radios have their own dedicated accessory lineup. See CLPe accessories for compatible audio options.
Is the HKLN4606 suitable for outdoor or wet environments?
The HKLN4606 is designed for general commercial and industrial use and is built to Motorola's standard quality specifications for business accessories. It does not carry an IP water-resistance rating. While it is durable enough for typical outdoor commercial use (security patrols, grounds maintenance, outdoor events), it is not rated for submersion or sustained heavy water exposure. For environments with frequent water contact — such as car wash conveyor areas — users typically position the radio in a holster away from direct water spray while the RSM clips to drier clothing above the water line.
