Motorola RMU2080d Key Features

Communication Range

The RMU2080d delivers reliable UHF coverage across up to 250,000 square feet and up to 20 floors inside multi-level buildings, making it well-suited for warehouses, manufacturing plants, hotels, and large commercial facilities.

Frequency Band and Transmit Power

Operates on the UHF band at 2 watts of transmit power. Power Select mode allows toggling between 1W and 2W output per channel.

8 Programmable Channels

Supports up to 8 channels, each independently configurable with its own frequency, CTCSS/DPL interference eliminator code, and scan settings. Channel configurations can be customized via the radio's front panel or through the free Motorola Customer Programming Software (CPS).

NOAA Weather Alerts

Channel 8 is factory-programmed to receive NOAA National Weather Service broadcasts across all seven national frequencies (162.400–162.550 MHz). The Weather Alert feature monitors for Warning Alarm Tones and unmutes the radio automatically when an alert is detected.

Display and Voice Prompts

The integrated display shows channel number, battery level, signal strength, scan status, and active feature indicators including VOX, scramble, keypad lock, and programming mode. Voice prompts announce channel names and battery level at power-on.

How do I program the RMV2080, and does it come pre-programmed?

The RMV2080 ships with 27 factory-stored VHF business frequencies already loaded, so the radio is usable out of the box for teams.

Custom programming—to assign specific frequencies, create channel aliases, set scan lists, or adjust privacy codes—requires Motorola's free HTML-based Customer Programming Software (CPS) and a separately purchased programming cable (Motorola HKLN4027).

CPS runs in any standard web browser. Once programmed, settings can be cloned from radio to radio using the optional multi-unit charging tray (PMLN6384) or a single-unit cloning cable, eliminating the need to manually program each unit in a large fleet.

Is the RMV2080 waterproof?

The RMV2080 is water-resistant, rated to IP54/55.

This means it is protected against dust ingress and can withstand direct water spray and rain on all surfaces. It is not rated for submersion.

If the radio is accidentally submerged in water, power it off immediately and allow it to dry fully before use.

For environments with heavy water exposure—such as marine, wastewater, or flood-control operations—a higher-rated submersible radio may be more appropriate.

Can the RMV2080 communicate with older Motorola RDX or CLS series radios?

Cross-series compatibility depends on frequency band and programmed channels. The RMV2080 uses a 2-pin accessory connector that is physically compatible with accessories from the RDX, XTN, and CLS series.

Radio-to-radio interoperability requires that the radios share the same frequency, channel, and privacy code settings.

The RMV2080 was introduced as the replacement for the RDV2080D and is backward-compatible on channels 1–7 with that model, allowing both radios to operate on the same network during a fleet transition.

What does NOAA weather alert on Channel 8 do?

Channel 8 on the RMV2080 is pre-assigned to receive broadcasts from the National Weather Service (NWS).

The radio monitors the NWS signal and alerts users when an official weather warning, watch, or forecast is issued for their area—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This is particularly useful for outdoor operations in areas susceptible to rapid weather changes: farms, construction sites, golf courses, parks, and outdoor event venues.

The weather channel configuration can be adjusted based on geographic location using the CPS software.

How long does the battery last, and are extended battery options available?

The standard 2100 mAh Li-Ion battery (PMNN4434) included with the radio provides up to 12 hours of use per charge under typical operating conditions.

For operations running longer shifts or in high-transmission environments, the optional PMNN4453 Ultra-High Capacity Battery (3200 mAh) extends runtime to 15 hours or more.

Fleet operators can keep radios charged between shifts using the PMLN6384 6-Unit Multi-Unit Charging Tray, which charges up to six radios simultaneously.
